Any SSDA Associate with time remaining in their degree program is eligible to apply to be an SSDA Fellow. Through the SSDA-SEP program, SSDA Fellows will receive modest financial support, which is intended to help with their SSDA project publication costs. The student's application must be approved by their thesis advisor.
For the SSDA-SEP fellowship, candidates are required to be SSDA Associates and be skilled with at least one programming language. SSDA Fellows must also meet the advanced SSDA paper requirement. This paper must be deemed of publishable quality and may be developed as a part of the student's dissertation.
SSDA will work with the applicant to identify an SSDA project advisor. The SSDA advisor is neither expected to be from the student's home department nor included on the student's dissertation committee.
To apply, SSDA-SEP fellowship candidates ar required to submit a completed application and develop a one page SSDA project proposal in cooperation with their thesis adviser. The SSDA project is strongly encouraged to be an element in the student's dissertation. The completed application package includes:

(2) One-page SSDA research paper proposal
(3) Current copy of CV
(4) One-page description of thesis research

Selection of the SSDA Fellow is determined by a competitive application process held within a month after the application is successfully submitted. Criteria for selection include a well-thought-out research plan and engagement of the thesis adviser in the research plan. Funding must be used toward the paper publication expense.
